Did you all see the Further - Nokia Theater - July 28 - YouTube clip for El Paso? El Paso clip is 5:30. This is what has some people worked up.

Notice, just to the right of Bob's vocal mic stand (on Bob's left), is another stand with a thin rectangle shape on top. The stand looks to be approximately 3 feet tall. What's that on top of it? A teleprompter?

Notice at 2:15 in the El Paso clip - what are Phil and those 2 guys chatting about? It looks like Phil signaled for the stage crew to come to him. Is he saying the teleprompter out?

Perhaps it was a prompter problem, and Bobby hugely relied on it for certain songs. El Paso lyrics are difficult for me. At his age, and being Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, I understand that.

Maybe this was a prompter problem. As a technical maintenance engineer, I've worked with teleprompters, IFBs, audio mix-minus feeds, microwave and satelltie live-shots from the news truck, and you-name-it. It's funny to watch young reporters panic when they're live, on the air, and their gear malfunctions.

What about the rest of the Further show? How was it?

Tapers comments for this show, upped at bt-eTree, are very critical of this show. Since I didn't spend $250 on tickets to go see them, and all the other efforts that go with attending a show like this, I will not criticize them.

Taper #1: "They stuck all the tapers in the back left corner of the theater if you where looking at the stage . Gave us about a ten by ten area and broke balls about how high the mic stands went up so this is what i got out of that whole cluster fuck . Bobby was a little fucked up for the first set i thought he was going to fall down a few times and was nodding out while playing also forgot the words to most of the songs . El paso he forgot every word and it was mostly a instrumental ."

Taper #2: "I was set up right next to Taper #1, and boy did he nail it. What an absolute disaster of a show. Bobby owes all the fans and the band a big apology. Some people paid over $250 on stub hub to get tix for that poor excuse of a show. And the sound at Nokia is flat taboot."

A teleprompter problem sounds much more likely that what a lot of others are saying. Thanks for a REASONABLE analysis of what might have happened.

"Bobby owes all the fans and the band a big apology"

Funny how I never remember anyone saying this about Jerry who frequently muffed lyrics even when he was feeling good, not to mention some of his borderline incoherent performances in the mid 80s.
